Amerikanske Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) har indstillet, at en ny færge bestilles hos SENESCO Marine LLC, efter at de vandt udbuddet med en pris på 78,6 millioner dollars. U.S. Department of Transportation giver et tilskud på 20 millioner dollars.
Den nye færge, som kan medtage 75 biler, skal erstatte færgen CAPE HENLOPEN, som er bygget i 1981, på ruten Lewes (Delaware) – Cape May (New Jersey). Bygningen starter i begyndelsen af 2026, med levering i sommeren 2029.
“For sustainable ferry operations in the future, it’s imperative we make this necessary capital investment today, The Ferry’s a critical piece of regional infrastructure and we’re proud of the Ferry’s heritage and link between two historic destinations. The new hybrid ferry is the start of the next chapter in the proud history of the Cape May – Lewes Ferry.”
