Tirsdag d. 16. juli, blev første stålplade skåret til de første to af de fire Island Class færger, som canadiske BC Ferries har bestilt hos Damen Shipyards Galati i Rumænien.
“Today, the first steel plates were cut, marking the official start of production for our newest Island Class ships. These new vessels are a key component of our commitment to increasing our system capacity, enhancing our service capabilities and reducing our environmental impact. “Their innovative design will also improve the overall efficiency and sustainability of our operations.”

De fire nye færger, skal indsættes på ruterne Nanaimo Harbour – Gabriola Island og Campbell River – Quadra Island, hvor der allerede sejler Island Class færger. Disse ”ældre” færger, vil blive overflyttet til ruterne Crofton – Vesuvius, Quadra – Cortes og Denman – Hornby.
Færgerne forventes leveret i 2026.
